Welcome to Roadway Aesthetic Treatments Showcase!
This newly designed, online version of Roadway Aesthetic Treatments Photo Album incorporates new features as well as new sections. In the past, two versions of disk-based photo albums were published by Federal Highway Administration. The goals of first version, completed in 2001, were: to provide a visual representation that would showcase engineered solutions that had been constructed to be harmonious and unobtrusive to their surroundings, and to share information about these innovative techniques. The second edition, published in 2005, included a greater number of projects. This current version was unveiled at the Transportation Research Board Conference in January 2006.
This comprehensive online version includes projects from previous versions as well as new projects and some additional chapters. Previously focusing on Retaining Walls, Bridges, Fences, Barriers, Bio Engineering, and Slope Treatments, the latest edition also includes two new sections devoted to Pavements and Landslide Mitigation. As a result of the Showcase being located online, updates are easy and new data is added frequently.
Because roads and roadway structures are constantly being built and repaired or improved, this Showcase is intended to represent this, and as such, is a living document. As a practitioner of roadway engineering, you are encouraged to submit your contributions to be included in this Showcase. These contributions can include context sensitive designs/solutions, as well as innovative methods of building aesthetically pleasing roads and structures.
